Restaurant Reboot

In 2020 and 2021 in the midst of Covid-19 Pandemic, NW&FS set aside our mission of offering scholarship, grants and fellowships to train new Chef’s, Wine Makers and Restaurateurs. It became clear that the businesses where these students aspired to work were closing at a frightening rate due to the impact of the Pandemic.

We expanded our focus – and Restaurant Reboot was born – and we began making grants to small and mid-size operations that were valued in their communities. Restaurant Reboot was our way of contributing to the survival of the local culinary community, the community that continued to serve and nurture our neighborhoods.

Our experiment proved to be a huge success. Beyond the monetary support, NW&FS supported consultants who helped restaurants utilize new technology, create better relationships with vendors and suppliers and helped them broaden their menus and wine lists. Helping one, helps many.

With the help of a grant from the Cowlitz Foundation and individual donors, NW&FS awarded a total of $100,000 to 20 local restaurants during 2020 and 2021. In addition to the financial support, we were repeatedly told the funds brought a glimmer of hope and contributed to building new community relationships.
